RiverCity GospelJazz first performed at the Tall Ships Festival in Steveston, B.C. on August 11, 2002 on a massive stage where the full Vancouver Symphony Orchestra had performed the previous evening. They were thrilled at the Tall Ships event when renowned jazz singer Sibel Thrasher, scheduled to appear next, joined them for their last set!

Immediately following their inaugural appearance, the group started developing not only the music they wanted to present, but also the themes of the worship services, with a sermon and prayer, most often in the style of the black American preachers of 100 years ago. The goal was not to parody black worship, but to respect and celebrate their form of worship.

Since their fledgling start in Steveston, RiverCity GospelJazz has presented their unique and meaningful style of worship in over 50 services in the Greater Vancouver area.
