The
RiverCity GospelJazz is a group of amateur but experienced musicians
who play Gospel Music in a kind of Dixieland style. Comprised of members
from a variety of Christian churches in the Vancouver area, they volunteer
their time and talents to offer a special ministry of music and worship.
Services include rousing renditions of favourites - old and new, with
much congregational singing, special numbers by the group, and appropriate
readings.

When
they first got together with the idea of forming a gospel jazz band,
they came up with the name RiverCity Gospel Jazz; not only after British
Columbia’s Fraser River, which snakes through the cities ofVancouver,
Richmond, Burnaby and New Westminster; but also after the River Jordan.
And the City they refer to is not in BC. It’s the one over the river
-- the City of God. The RiverCity GospelJazz hopes that everyone,
through their worship, will participate in the joy, love and peace
which are the life of that City.
Their
theme song is “Shall We Gather at the River,” which forms
a kind of Invitation to Worship. They end each service with a rousing
rendition of "When the Saints Go Marching In." Since
their beginnings in 2002, RiverCity GospelJazz has offered their musical
service of worship to over 50 churches in the Lower Mainland.
